Healthy food = tasteless food?

Check this out - healthy pretzel snacks made from organic brown rice, organic quinoa, organic flax seeds, organic sesame seeds, and ... listen to this... organic curry powder!

This is the most tasteless thing I have ever put in my mouth! Even the health conscious hubster found it hard to swallow, literally.  Quote: "It's so organic you can taste the sand!" Unquote. It is not food and certainly no snack! Come to think of it, the name is pretty appropriate - it's no different to picking up a twig from the floor and try to bite into it.

I am all for healthy food. If you have been following my blog, you will know that to be true. But these sticks and twigs are pushing me off the edge. The only way to get through this pack is to have a really good dip.

What's the worst healthiest food you've ever eaten? I honestly believe food can be healthy and tasty at the same time, and you don't have to choose one over the other.

Wait, I found a way to revive these sticks - check out the next post.

  1. I was going to say those sticks need hummus. Everything is better with hummus... =) The worst health food I ever bought was some kind of weird raw snack food. They were in the shape of disks about the size of a nickle, supposedly little snack cracker/chip substitutes. They were terribly bland and had a bizarre too dry, too slimy texture because of the chia seed in them. I couldn't choke them down and had to throw them out, unfortunately.

  2. Hi Brooke! Yes, the taste I just experienced is exactly like how you describe - bland, dry, bizarre, but not slimy. I've found a way to make them not just edible but brilliant - check my next post!

  3. Seriously! I taught it was some twigs you've got there in the first pics. Guess this is good as edible fibre..

  5. cant wait to see what you do to revive those twigs ;) health food can be quite disgusting but i realized that making them yourself is so much better and tastier!

  6. Hi Janine, just visited your blog - very nice! And you'll be laughing when you see my next post tomorrow.

Totally agree that nothing beats making the food yourself - you know exactly what you're eating and you can control how salty or sweet you want it to be.
